The main objective of the project is the solving of known limitation of the existing manufacturing process of security glass.
This project is mainly driven by the demand of the users. The main disadvantages of the common production process are:
· High energy consumption (some 100 kW to some MW)
· not applicable for curved glass (only with chemical processes or very expensive systems)
· not applicable for thin glass (<3 mm)
.· no easy way to generate zones with different tensions
     
     
We aspect the following advantages of the new process:
· Energy reduction to at least 1/10 to 1/100 of the common process
· Applicable process for curved glass
· Applicable for thin glass
· Computer control of zone properties
· dramatically reduction of processing noise (no cooling with air pressure)
To use a laser source in combination with a image processing system to induce tension into the glass surface is the main technological objective of the proposal.
